New friendships forged at Millicent

Around a dozen dog owners recently accepted the invitation for a leisurely walk with their furry friends around The Domain parklands at Millicent.

They then joined the Millicent and Surrounds New Residents and Friends Group for a barbecue and chat with new and old friends.

The informal get together was also backed by the Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group while the barbecue requisites of sausages, bread and onions were donated by Millicent and District Hospital.

Friends Group co-convenor Darrell Looker said the group was formed around a year ago and the parklands walk was their first monthly social occasion for 2023.

He said an informal meetup was planned for each month.

“We are open to suggestions for places to have walks,” Mr Looker said.

“A wine tasting night is under consideration while we are certain to repeat the quiz night as it was booked out in 2022.

“The possibility of a ghost tour at the Millicent National Trust Museum is also under consideration.

“As well as our monthly events, we play table tennis every Monday at the Millicent Squash Club with up to 16 players.”

Among the dog walkers was local teacher Patrick Smith who brought along his five-month-old miniature dachshund called Hilda.

“These walks are a way of meeting people and getting Hilda out of the house,” he said.
