New Year celebration

Mount Gambier will ring in the New Year together at the annual New Year’s Eve Festival at Vansittart Park.

The popular community event is making a comeback after a two-year COVID induced hiatus and Mount Gambier New Year’s Eve Festival committee chair Steve Toope said he was pleased the committee had been able to put it back on.

“It has taken a big effort, but we have managed to pull it together and we trust the local community will again support the event,” Mr Toope said.

“The event would not be possible without the support of number of sponsors and we sincerely do thank those supporters who have come on board for the 2022 celebrations.

“Without them we would not be able to stage the celebrations.

“It is great the event is being held.”

Mr Toope said keeping costs minimal to ensure the event would be affordable for everyone had presented some challenges, however entry fees would remain the same as they had been for the past four years.

Tickets include $35 family tickets for two adults and up to four children, $15 adult tickets and $10 tickets for concession holders.

Tickets can be purchased online via Trybooking or at the gate however Mr Toope said the committee would prefer if attendees purchased tickets online because this will make it easier on the night.

The event begins at 6pm, all activities and rides inside the venue are free and patrons will only need to purchase food and drink.

Mr Toope said people were welcome to bring their own food and drink to the event but could not bring alcohol and there would be a variety of catering outlets and alcohol sales available.

“This year there will be a number of activities including laser tag, bumper soccer, dodge ball, jumping castle, slide, mini putt-putt, photo booth, face painting, tattoo artists, live music and of course fireworks at approximately 9.30pm and midnight,” Mr Toope said.

The live music line-up will include Calamari for Breakfast, Skyline Haze, Magnet, Stokes and Christie Wallace Trio.

Mr Toope said performance times were yet to be determined and would be available on the New Year’s Eve Festival Mount Gambier Facebook page.

Security will be present at the event with police providing additional support throughout the night.

“The event has been a welcomed community event and the committee wishes it to remain so,” Mr Toope said.

“It is an enjoyable celebration and one that strives to provide a safe family atmosphere for all to attend.”

The event will be live streamed on community radio 5GTR FM and visit the New Year’s Eve Festival Mount Gambier Facebook page for event updates.

“See you all there on NYE,” Mr Toope said.
