Senior Millicent nurse Caroline Dower has secured one of the prestigious awards given out each year by the Limestone Coast Local Health Network.


The Millicent Hospital associate nurse unit manager was recognised for her excellence in the provision of outstanding support, advice and direction in non-clinical/clinical support.


Ms Dower has recently stepped into a role focused on creating a strong and meaningful program for Transition to Professional Practice Program (TPPP) Registered Nurses.


As part of this role, she has helped to further embed a culture of learning at Millicent Hospital by creating a positive environment, one with a focus on exploration and growth.


There were three other finalists in this category including the catering and lifestyle team at the 80-bed Sheoak Lodge aged care facility attached to Millicent Hospital.


It was quite a showing for Millicent at the recent 2023 LCLHN awards ceremony.


Simone Berry, Darryl Looker and other members of the Millicent and Surrounds Health support group (MASH) were named as the Volunteers of the Year.


MASH in collaboration with the Millicent Health Advisory Council, undertook a project to renovate and refresh the onsite student nurses’ accommodation.


The group was led by Ms Berry and Mr Looker, who put in a considerable amount of time and effort to raise funds and awareness.


They were central to the project and without their efforts, this work would have not occurred to the level that it did, and this commitment is well beyond any expectations.


Millicent Hospital registered nurse Kelly Johnson was a finalist in the Above and Beyond category while Millicent Hospital associate nurse unit manager Emma Peak made the short list in the Shining Star category.
