Open garden event proves popular

Perfect Spring weather recently drew more than 200 art and music lovers to an open garden in Millicent.

The sprawling Byamee garden of Jeff and Chris Hollingsworth also welcomed local artists, musicians and singers to the fundraiser.

Displaying their artistic talents were Aleesha Barton, Kerrie Stratford, Amanda Schubert, Melanie Spurling and Tanya Hunter. Providing pleasant music in the sunshine were guitarist / vocalist John McLoughlin along with ukulele groups from Penola, Millicent and Mount Gambier.

All participants took the opportunity to raise funds for IMAG, also known as Imagine Millicent.

Founded in 2017, it is a collective committed to increasing social, cultural and economic opportunities to the Millicent township through public art initiatives, working with local, national and international artists on its projects and is a sub-committee of the Millicent Business Community Association.

IMAG treasurer Sandra Melrose said the group was grateful to its hosts and all who volunteered to ensure the success of the day.

“The gates were opened at 10am and we had 70 people through within the first hour,” Ms Melrose said.

“The aim of the garden day was to generate additional cash for further IMAG art projects.

“To date, IMAG has decorated a piano for community use along with murals on a former bank and the skate park.

“Melanie Spurling is currently completing a mural on the tennis rebound wall at The Domain.

“The next IMAG project is to create a mural with a beehive theme at Ducky’s Corner in George Street and we are negotiating with an artist.

“We have two other projects in mind in 2021”.
