Paperwork costs community groups

Failure to submit the necessary paperwork meant the Imagine Millicent community arts group and four other community and sporting groups missed out on Wattle Range Council grant funding in the latest round.

A staff report also stated the Millicent Racing Club, Mount Burr Trails, Mount Burr United Cricket Club and National Trust Glencoe Woolshed also did not provide the requisite paperwork and were disqualified.

Imagine Millicent had sought council funding of $1500 for the painting of a mural for the Palliative Care courtyard at Millicent and District Hospital.

This represented 45% of the total project cost.

The Glencoe Football Club also did not receive any council contribution towards its $5000 purchase of a new 6×4 tandem trailer.

According to the staff report, the club had already received $19,800 for a new cool room for its 50-year-old licensed premises from the council in this financial year under another grants program.

The January monthly council meeting endorsed the staff recommendation that four groups and clubs receive the maximum $2000 grant.

They are the Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club, Millicent North Kindergarten, Millicent United Soccer Club and the Millicent and District Pony Club.

Lesser amounts have been given to the Rivoli Bay Sailing Club ($1487), Penola Tennis Club ($1192), Tantanoola Football Club ($990) and the Rendelsham Cricket Club ($1790).

During the discussion of the staff report, it was stressed that clubs and groups had to supply information such as financial statements.
