Lawn bowls has resumed at the Penola Bowling Club following the Christmas and New Year break.

Last week the Ladies Division 1 Pennants team played Millicent at Millicent and won by 20 shots, 57-37.

The rink skippered by Meredith Hinze won by 10 shots and the rink skippered by Kaye Batt also won by 10 to sit fourth on the ladder.

The Division 2 Ladies won after Millicent forfeited and now sit third on the ladder.

On Saturday the Open Division 2 Team played Port MacDonnell at Penola and won by 15 shots, 76-61.

The rink skippered by Ken Batt won by 11 shots, the rink skippered by Scott Degenhardt won by four shots, and the Peter Thompson’s rink drew 20 shots each.

This win puts the team in 4th position on the ladder.

The Division 3 North team played away at Millicent and lost by 10 shots.

The rink skippered by Wane Wachtel had a draw, with the team now 8th on the ladder.

The Division 3 South team played Beachport at Penola and lost by 20 shots, with the rink skippered by Peter Starick winning by nine.

This team is now 7th 
on the ladder.

Earlier this month the club conducted its Champion of Champion Men’s Triples.

The team of Roger Gibbs, Justin Robbie and Marcus Devereux played Peter Thompson, John Davidson and Don messenger in the finals.

The closely contested game was eventually won by the team skippered by Justin Robbie.

The club also assisted the rodeo committee on the weekend, staffing the sponsors’ bar.

Tomorrow the club will conduct its annual Rick Mitchell’s Gastro Intestinal Cancer Day in honour of Rick’s wife Judy who died of this condition.

The day is open to all bowlers with all funds raised donated to this cause.

Ladies pennants will not take place tomorrow due to the Australia Day public holiday, however on Saturday the Open Pennants divisions will be played.

The Division 2 and Division 3 South teams will both play teams from Mount Gambier RSL at Penola.

The Division 3 North team will play away at Kalangadoo.

On Sunday there will be two teams travelling to Adelaide to compete in the Men’s Country Carnival.
