Penola gears up for netball grand finals

A Grade

Penola is through to the 2023 A Grade grand final and is the only thing in the way of Keith and back to back premierships.

The Eagles will fly into the match favourites having beaten Keith in the second qualifying final two weeks before, by a comfortable margin of 22 points.

Never underestimate the value of experience though with Ketih having been on the big stage last season and getting the job done, the Crows will be confident they can do it again having taken out the minor premiership this season.

Penola has beaten Keith in both meetings this season which will provide Penola with a huge mental edge over the Crows.

Keith knows it will have to achieve something it is yet to do this season in the most pressure intensive match of the season.

Last time the two sides met youngster Tegan Lythgo was a point of difference between the two sides as she worked overtime in attack for the Eagles.

If Keith is to get the result this time then limiting Lythgo’s impact going forward will go a long way towards a victory.

Captain Brooke Klemm will hope to lead from the front for Penola and guide her side to a flag after an excellent season.

Mary Wachtel is in great form after an outstanding preliminary final performance, andwill be key for her side and need to perform for Keith if the side is to go back to back.

The pressure is on, the season will come to an end with either Keith or Penola coming out on top.

A Reserve

Penola is looking to go one step further this season in A Reserve after a disappointing grand final loss in 2022.

Standing in Penola’s way is Naracoorte who has been impressive in 2023 and will go into the final as favourite.

Naracoorte finished minor premiers, only suffering one defeat for the season at the hands of Penola in round two, however the Demons then evened the score with a win over the Eagles in round 11.

The most recent match up was in the finals with Naracoorte winning by five points.

Past results indicate that this will be a tight battle with whoever can handle the pressure best getting the result.

B Grade

An undefeated Penola will take on Border Districts in the grand final on Saturday as the Eagles look to go one step further than their heartbreaking three point grand final loss last season.

Border Districts qualified for the grand final after a 12 point win over Lucindale in the preliminary final.

Lucindale has struggled against Penola this season and the Eagles will be confident they can get the job done.

Penola will go into the match extremely confident as it has looked the best side all year, however it will need to turn up and deliver its best performance as it’s finals time and anything can happen.

C Grade

The C Grade matchup is truly the best two sides this season, as Penola takes on Mundulla in a matchup that is too close to call.

Penola went through the home and away season undefeated, however in its first final it went down to Mundulla by one point.

The match was a nail biter and it handed Mundulla a grand final spot and Penola its first loss of the season.

On paper the line ups are very even, one player who will have an impact is Terri Grosser who was excellent in the qualifying final for Mundulla and Penola will need to shut down the impact Grosser has on the contest if the Eagles are to get the result.

Div 1

Kingston qualified for the grand final after beating Naracoorte in the preliminary final, and now will face Penola in the decider.

Kingston finished minor premiers but stumbled in the finals with Penola beating them in the second qualifying final to send the Eagles through to the final.

During the season the sides met twice sharing the chocolates with a win each.

Both teams will know they can beat the opposition and the matchup is sure to be a close encounter which will go right down to the wire.
