Penola hotel under new ownership

The Prince of Wales Hotel has been sold to the Duxton Pub Group, with Bronwyn and Mark Millie saying farewell after six and a half years of ownership.

The couple has owned three hotels and Mr Millie said after working in hospitality for over 20 years they would be taking some time off to recharge.

“This is our final journey in the hospitality industry, so we’re going to just relax and take it easy for a little while,” he said.

Mr Millie said the Prince of Wales and the Penola community was the best area they had worked in.

“It’s absolutely beautiful, the people in Penola are so friendly,” he said.

“Unfortunately with the COVID scenario, it has slowed down the tourists coming through, but pre-COVID the tourism had been wonderful in the Coonawarra district.

“We have got some beautiful staff here and when Bronwyn and myself have been away from the hotel they have done a fantastic job looking after our locals and the travellers coming through.

“We would just like to thank all of our patrons at the hotel and the businesses surrounding the hotel.

“They’re all involved with the hotel in various ways and just for all their help and their generosity.

“From Bronwyn and I and our staff, it’s been a wonderful experience.”
