Petrol price surge hits region

The pump price of unleaded fuel in Millicent has jumped by almost 20 cents a litre in the space of three months.

This popular grade of petrol was selling for 169.9 cents per litre over the weekend at Millicent’s sole staffed service station at Billygoat Corner.

This is the highest price in Millicent for several years and approaching the record high.

It was only a few months ago that Millicent motorists were having to hand over only 150.9 cents per litre for unleaded fuel.

Soaring worldwide demand for oil has prompted the steep rise in prices in recent weeks.

On the other hand, petrol fell below a $1 per litre in Millicent in mid-2020 when the first wave of the COVID pandemic swept the globe, the economy slowed and demand for oil dropped.

Petrol prices in Millicent are usually higher than Mount Gambier which has many outlets.
