PHYLAND TROPHY STAYS HOME

‘SUGAR’ Ray Robinson waits for the stray ball behind the stumps but bowler Alan Dobeson makes no mistakes for the Hamilton Veterans, taking middle stump to send Coasters’ Mick Young back to the pavilion in Sunday’s Peter Phyland Memorial Shield Match.

The Hamilton side took its seventh Phyland title at the weekend, the coveted shield named in honour of one of the founders of veterans cricket in the district.

The annual match to claim it is played between the South East Coasters, from south east South Australia and the Hamilton district side, which draws players from Portland to Ararat and everywhere in between.
