Pink suits up in blue and white

After several days of media speculation, it has been confirmed that former Tantanoola player Toby Pink has been given a second chance at AFL level.

His father Michael Pink has told The SE Voice that his son has inked a new contract with North Melbourne and this has also been announced by its Arden Street headquarters.

The former Sydney Swans key defender has joined the AFL Kangaroos as a de-listed free agent.

Pink, 25, joins the Kangaroos from Glenelg where he helped the SANFL side to the 2023 premiership a few weeks ago.

A dominant season also saw the 194cm backman named in the SANFL Team of the Year.

Pink spent three seasons on the Swans’ rookie list from 2017-2019 after being initially drafted as a key forward.

However, he did not break through for an AFL game and was de-listed.

The defender is no stranger to North Melbourne having been signed to the Roos’ VFL team ahead of the COVID-cancelled 2020 season.

Head of football talent Brady Rawlings welcomed Pink to North Melbourne, saying his hard work had paid dividends.

“We have tracked Toby really closely, especially over the past 12 months,” Rawlings said.

“He was the dominant defender in Glenelg’s premiership run all season and he played a big role in helping them achieve their success.

“It’s been a long time since Toby was in the AFL system but he’s clearly worked hard on all aspects of his game – he’s really earned this chance.”

Pink last wore the red-and-white colours of Tantanoola in 2016 when he was a boarder at Rostrevor College in Adelaide.

His brothers Hamish and Darcy and father Michael have all played with the Mid SE Tigers with Pink (senior) also a long-serving umpire.
