Pitch switch gets play under way

UNDER 17 O’DONOGHUE SHIELD

With poor conditions and a wet pitch the decision was made to play at Reidy Park in the Under 17 O’Donoghue Shield game between Mil Lel and Millicent.

Winning the toss, Mil Lel sent Millicent in to bat and bowled some tight lines and very good lengths to make scoring very hard and creating chances early.

Archer Virtanen then got an early breakthrough bowling Cambell Hateley, bringing captain Kallan Bevan to the crease to join Sam Hunt.

The Millicent pair then set out to create a partnership to give the innings some momentum.

Hunt batted patiently and retired on 20 runs and Bevan scored an important 22 before a good catch in the deep by Virtanen dismissing him for 22.

With Jett Werchon and Charlie Bevan settling in at the crease the boys had a good middle order partnership with Bevan (12) and Werchon (16 retired) batting well together with the running between the wicket a highlight.

Jackson Dean came to the crease and was run out with a great throw from the deep from Toby Grigg.

Teej Lawlor and Max Hunt then dug in to try and bat the remaining overs out.

Hunt retired on 10 and Lawlor (16) pushed the score to 117 off 33 overs to give Mil Lel something to chase next week.

Virtenen, Hicks and Dolphin were the wicket takers in very good bowling performance by the Mil Lel team.
