Those living in Beachport are set to benefit from brand new play equipment and associated landscaping after the completion of the Susan Wilson Memorial Playground.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin opened the new playground on Monday and said it was a special day for the Beachport community and all those involved in this project.
“I am pleased the Federal Government was able to deliver funding of $200,000 via the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program towards this council led project,” Mr Pasin said.
The new playground includes a giant pirate ship, with plenty of sand play, climbing rope equipment, flying fox, slides and swings.
“This is a great example of a project that not only brings children and community together to enjoy the final outcome, but it’s wonderful to see community cooperation involved,” Mr Pasin said.
“It’s an extremely impressive playground and I have no doubt this will bring visitors from afar to visit Beachport.”
Wattle Range Council chief executive Ben Gower said council appreciated the federal government’s significant contribution to this important community infrastructure project.
“As well as providing a wonderful playground for our local community, projects of this nature provide a welcomed boost to visitor numbers and have positive flow through effects for small business and the local economy,” Mr Gower said.
Beachport Lions Club also contributed a lot of time and effort to the project and club member Mike Coonan said Beachport as a very vibrant community.
“A total of 130 hours was donated by the Lions Club members to build the boundary fence and a redgum archway, with the barbecue area render work still yet to be completed,” he said.
