Ponies pounce on showjump series

Equines raced out of the gates for nine classes in the final of the Green Triangle Showjumping Winter Series at the Mount Gambier and Districts Pony Club.

Four winners were crowned after eight rounds held at different regional venues across South Australia and Victoria over the last three months.

Casterton rider Ayla McDonald and Smudge won both Pony of the Series sponsored by the Rossouw Family and the U13 Encouragement Award sponsored by the Richards Family.

Stacey Edwards (Casterton) claimed Horse of the Series sponsored by Ardoch Racing on Another County and the Best Performed Thoroughbred sponsored by Second Chance Horses went to local rider Cherie Scrivener on Emil Emzar.

Mount Gambier Showjumping Club president David Johnson said he wants to congratulate everyone who took part and were flexible around the weather and the adjustment of the location at times.

“The series went really well, well supported and the future of showjumping is looking bright in the Green Triangle area,” he said.

Mr Johnson said it has been rewarding to see so many people participating and volunteering across the venues.

“Volunteers in our community are the lifeblood of what makes them tick so I congratulate all those who have got in and helped to facilitate their days but also the successful running of the whole program so well done and thankyou to all of them,” he said.

Mr Johnson said riders were scored on their individual six best scores of the series.

“Recognising that not everybody is able to get to all of them and to give everybody a chance to maybe take out the trophy,” he said.

“Winter Series is an opportunity for the pony club community within the South East to participate.

“We have been doing it for some years now.”

Mr Johnson said the Mount Gambier Showjumping Club accept memberships throughout the year.

“The best thing is children riding against adults and it is equal opportunity for men and women here,” he said.
