Port MacDonnell champions crowned

Port MacDonnell finished last month with its men’s and ladies triples, held in windy conditions.

The ladies had four teams take part in a 15 end knock out sponsored by Dollar Curtains/Elaine and Graham Hutchesson.

Heather Richards defeated Marilyn Sutton to reach the final.

Elaine Pruis defeated Roma Henderson to advance to the 18 end final against Heather Richards’ team.

Richards’ team of Jan Dowdell and Suzanne Connell got off to an early lead and after 10 ends led 14-3, finally winning 20-9 against Pruis, Lyn Vanderley and Sharon Perryman.

The men had seven teams participate in the competition, sponsored by All Digital Hearing/Grantville Butchers.

Adam Wilson’s team of Chris Richards and John Broadbent defeated Eddy Smith’s team and then defeated Keith Dowdell’s side to reach the final.

Dowdell defeated Kel Butler’s team and then lost to Adam Wilson.

With Terry Seiler’s team of Des Horrigan and Chris Negline having a bye in the first round then defeating Kevin Norman’s team to advance to the final against Wilson’s team.

In a game of two halves Seiler got off to a good start and after 8 ends led 11-1.

The game then turned around and after 17 ends it was Wilson by 2.

It came down to the last end and with Seiler holding game with 3 shots then Wilson’s last bowl got a lucky rub and moved the jack back to his own bowl to take the title 17-13.
