Apollo v International
Round 6 of the Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Women’s Premier League is presenting some of the most exciting contests of the season and perhaps none more exciting than the top of the table clash between Apollo and International.
It’s only been two rounds since these teams last met, but a lot has happened in that time.
Apollo claimed a tight victory over Millicent in a crucial victory away from home, while International hosted a bottom of the table Naracoorte and they shared the points in an unexpected result.
Apollo will be wary International may come out firing as the side looks to bounce back from a disappointing result.
Both sides have looked the real deal throughout the season and have the best defences in the league.
Apollo’s defence was a standout last time these teams met, with the blue and white the only side to keep a clean sheet against the impressive International attack that has scored 17 goals in its four other matches.
Apollo’s Deni Atkin and International’s Evany Rex will be the players the defence will have to be wary of.
Both players have kicked five goals this season already, the joint second most for the competition, and have always posed a danger to their opposition.
It’s a huge game for both sides, with the winner ending the round on top of the ladder, it is sure to be an interesting battle between two high quality sides.
Blue Lake v Millicent
Blue Lake hosts Millicent as the Rangers look to build on their round five win and start to build some momentum.
The reigning premiers have not looked the same so far this year, they currently have a three wins and two losses record and had a disappointing loss last time the side faced Millicent.
Millicent dominated in the round four match between the two sides with a 5-1 thumping.
Blue Lake responded with a good win over Centrals last week but it will be an incredibly important match-up this week as the side seeks redemption from round four.
Millicent has continued to look more and more dangerous this season with some exciting attacking play.
Last week Leonie McCallum was important, netting two in a hard-fought loss to a strong opponent, and Lana Shepherd remains the leading goal scorer for the league with nine goals.
Blue Lake will have to be on its defensive best if it is to beat Millicent, but it will be a challenge the reigning premiers should welcome.
The best teams look forward to tough competition and the chance to prove themselves to be the better side and Blue Lake will relish the opportunity.
It’s a real six pointer as the winner will create a gap between themselves and the loser on the table which will be important in the coming weeks.
Gambier Centrals v Naracoorte
Round six is full of matches that are real six pointers, the winners can create important gaps between themselves and the loser, and this match-up is no different.
Centrals will host Naracoorte in a bottom of the table clash as both sides seek to avoid spending the next week at the bottom of the table.
A brilliant away from home draw against International has seen Naracoorte create a one point gap between themselves and Centrals, but a win for Centrals will see themselves jump to fifth.
Last week Centrals went into a match against the reigning premiers with some injury issues that saw them not at full strength, making Blue Lake work hard for victory.
It’s a golden opportunity for both sides to grab their first win of the season and create some momentum going forward, one win could be all either side needs to build some confidence and start to potentially cause some upsets.
Both sides have been improving this season but for the loser of the match it could potentially mean an eight point gap between them and the top four – a gap that may be too hard to close.
