Blue Lake v International
Blue Lake hosted an International side coming off its first loss of the Barry Maney Group Men’s Premier League season in a match that proved to be a goalfest and provided plenty of excitement for the crowd.
The day was a special one for both sides as they fought it out for the Lewis Ferguson Memorial Shield for the club that won the most games during the day.
Blue Lake did not take long to score with Shar Nay Than beating the keeper in the sixth minute.
International was unable to find a response early with Jack Latham doubling Blue Lake’s lead.
International then mounted a response, kicking two goals in six minutes to draw level again.
It was Blue Lake that found the back of the net to take a one goal advantage into half time.
Less than 10 minutes after half time Blue Lake took its advantage back out to two goals thanks to a second goal from Mereeh Htoo, and Blue Lake once again looked in control of the game.
Dan Allwright stepped up from International, scoring a hat trick with goals in the 65th and then 72nd minute to again level the game.
Thomas Weedon’s 79th minute strike placed International in front for the first time of the match.
Once again though, Blue Lake responded with Shar Nay Than converting from the spot in the 82nd minute to level the game for the third time.
Shar Nay Than then scored with one minute left in regular time with a goal which looked like the winner.
But once again the opposition responded with Allwright scoring his fourth for the day in the 90th minute.
International refused to give up and a 92nd minute injury time shot from Lachlan Charlton put International back in front with little time to spare.
The final whistle blew with International back on the winners list and the Lewis Ferguson medal went to Dan Allwright for his four goals.
Apollo v Naracoorte
After an upset win over the previously unbeaten International in the previous round Apollo went into its round seven match against Naracoorte heavy favourites.
It did not take long for the home side to take the lead with Apollo’s Jack Donehue netting the ball in the seventh minute.
While Naracoorte’s defence did its best to keep the opposition out, it could only manage it for so long with the next goal coming in the 22nd minute.
The goal came from Say Say Wah who then took his side three up in the 30th minute.
Right before half time a Jack Donehue cross to Gay Nay Say Ler made it 4-0.
The break in play did not slow Apollo’s momentum as the side scored six minutes into the second half with Jock Prentice scoring from midfield.
The Naracoorte defence fought harder in the following minutes, helping create some attacking opportunities for themselves.
Say Say Wah then scored Apollo’s sixth goal of the day in the 77th minute.
Not content with a hat-trick Say Say Wah then scored his fourth during the 90th minute, putting the game well and truly to bed.
The match finished with Apollo claiming an important 7-0 win.
Millicent v Gambier Centrals
The reigning premiers have started to string some important wins together with an 8-0 win away from home against Millicent in round seven of the Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League.
The match started with both sides having early chances that were unable to be converted.
Gambier Centrals started to control the match as the first half progressed and in the 19th minute Lewis March beat the keeper to open the scoring for the away side.
March then scored again in the 31st minute to double his side’s lead as half time approached.
A penalty in the 38th minute had Sam Shoemark joining March in the goal scorers and taking his side 3-0 up going into half time.
The second half started in the worst possible fashion for Millicent with a 46th minute goal to Sam Shoemark.
A 53rd minute strike for Christian Fleetwood then made it 5-0 for Centrals early in the second half.
Centrals captain Jake Blackwell then extended his side’s lead to six goals in the 72nd minute.
Kynan Sheedy joined in on the scoring in the 80th minute before March secured a hat trick in the 84th minute and took the score to 8-0.
The final whistle was a relief for Millicent as the side was unable to mount any response to Centrals.
