Fixtured matches of futsal (indoor soccer) have begun at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.
The 2023 Football SA Preseason Limestone Coast Futsal Competition began last week with evenly fought matches and end-to-end action, whether in the mixed social or junior and women divisions.
In the mixed social division, Inter 1 opened the competition on Wednesday evening with a 9-8 victory over team Miscellaneous’.
The following night saw evenly contested matches between teams of boys, girls and women.
“While it’s fantastic for your footwork and fitness, the design of futsal just lends itself to being a great outlet for people to come together, socialise and have fun,” Football SA Regional Development Officer Limestone Coast Christian Fleetwood said.
Thus far, a dozen teams of people of all ages have participated in the competition, run by Fleetwood who is supported by volunteers and officials.
“Seeing our social participants, who are not involved in club football, alongside veteran footballers, shows this is a format open to just about anyone,” Fleetwood said.
More than 60 people have participated in the competition thus far, with more encouraged to get involved.
