Rail trail discussed

Wattle Range Council spent more than an hour at its November monthly meeting on matters relating to the $2.1m Coonawarra Rail Trail.

It heard a deputation from Coonawarra landholders Peter and Elke Hocking, calling for council to conduct an internal review of its decision to construct a walking and bike trail along the road reserve that traverses a portion of their property, proposed as part of the wider Coonawarra Rail Trail project.

The councillors considered reports from chief executive Ben Gower and Engineering Services Director Peter Halton on this subject later in the meeting.

Council resolved to continue works along the railway line to the road reserve in question and to defer any decision on its continuation until further information was received in relation to the possible relocation of statues at Father Woods Park and the safety of the associated road crossings.
