Rapid fire response

About four hectares of farmland near the northern edge of Lake Bonney were blackened on Monday afternoon.

The alarm was raised at 2.40pm and the blaze also involved a pile of tyres.

In line with firefighting protocols, multiple water bombers were despatched from Mount Gambier and were re-filled at the Millicent airport.

Wattle Range CFS group officer Fred Stent also sent two land-based crews from the Millicent CFS Brigade to the area.

The fire was quickly contained and the water bombers were stood down by 3.50pm.

The blaze did not enter the nearby Canunda National Park.

Mr Stent said the cause of the fire was not known but there were no suspicious circumstances.

According to Mr Stent, it may have been a re-kindle.
