Hatherleigh resident David Smith was recently invested with the Conspicuous Service Cross at a ceremony at Government House in Adelaide.
The rare medal was announced in the Australia Day Honours in January and was presented by Her Excellency the Governor of South Australia, the Honourable Frances Adamson.
A number of his family attended the investiture including his wife Selena.
The retired Brigadier in the Australian Regular Army was recognised for overseeing $1b of expenditure each year as Director General of the Integrated Soldier Systems Branch.
The latest honour goes with his Membership of the Order of Australia and the Distinguished Service Medal which he received during his lengthy military career.
The CSC citation states it was awarded to Brigadier Smith for outstanding achievement and exceptional performance in the development, acquisition and support of critical combat and non-combat equipment for soldiers, sailors and aviators.
“His leadership, professionalism and superior commercial acumen underpinned the acquisition and sustainment of world-class personal equipment for soldiers, sailors and aviators vital for high performance and protection in complex and dynamic operational environments,” stated the CSC citation.
“His exemplary outcome, particularly in the Women in Combat Program, delivered for the first-time transformational equipment ensembles for women who work in a combat environment.”
