Travel to the regions will be quicker and easier and local economies will be boosted with a suite of upgrades to airports and aerodromes across the state.
Ten regional airports and aerodromes across South Australia will share almost $835,000 as part of the latest round of the Support Regional Aviation fund.
However, only one of those is located in the Limestone Coast, with Naracoorte the only successful applicant.
The Naracoorte Aerodrome will receive funding for an apron upgrade, line marking and fencing realignment.
Grants were awarded for a range of projects such as improving runways, extending terminal facilities and upgrading fencing.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Corey Wingard said the grants were a major boost for the regions.
“I congratulate the successful applicants as part of this round of the Support Regional Aviation fund and I look forward to seeing these upgrades to airports and aerodromes right across the state, from Ceduna to Naracoorte,” he said.
“These regional airports and aerodromes provide a vital service to their local communities by improving access, boosting tourism and making travel across the state quicker and easier.
“We are confident that once complete these upgrades will not only provide better service for locals but also encourage more tourists to visit and explore the beauty of these parts of our state.”
