Riders shine

The Mount Gambier Cycling Club is celebrating the success of several riders, following the state championships.

Local riders Ethan McKenny, Niel van Niekerk, Xavier Farmilo, Patrick Langsmith, Jami Buckley, Molly Opperman and Matthew Opperman headed to Hanson Reserve in Adelaide for the State Championships in the keirin and Points race on the

weekend.

Molly finished first in both the Under 15 women’s keirin and points race, with Niel also first in the elite men’s Keirin.

The Opperman family continued their success, as father Matthew finished second in the masters keirin and points race.

The riders are also cheering on their teammate Kai Arbery this week as he competes for Australia in New Zealand as part of the Oceania Track Championships.

The Mount Gambier youngster is a member of the Australian Under 19 Sprint team.
