ALimestone coast man has been charged with two counts of driving without due care and damaging a motor vehicle after he followed his elderly victims to the Mount Gambier Police Station and smashed in their car windscreen following a road rage incident.
The defendant appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court last week in front of Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos.
The court heard that on June 25, the man was repeatedly flashing his high beams, using his horn and swerving within the lane too closely behind an elderly couple on Pick Avenue, Sturt Street, Bay Road, North Terrace, Ramsay Avenue, Jubilee Highway East, Commercial Street East, Ferrers Street and Heriot Street.
Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos labelled the defendant’s actions as “dangerous behaviour”.
“These two individuals have been obviously traumatised by your actions,” Magistrate Kossiavelos said.
Mount Gambier Police Prosecutor Pero Kolundzic said the defendant was not known to the victims.
“This has really put both victims, who are in their late 60s, in fear. It was quite a horrific incident for them,” he said.
“Essentially, after the incidents following these victims on the roads, the victim decided to drive to the Mount Gambier Police Station.
“They were followed by the defendant and this is where the property damage occurred where he has jumped on their bonnet and kicked their windshield.”
The man was issued with fines totalling $1200 and an 18 month good behaviour bond.
