An aged care facility for Robe appears increasingly unlikely according to the seaside council’s Mayor Alison Nunan.
Her council has been probing such a possibility in recent years and undertaken a number of out-of-town inspections.
A recent elected members’ forum was addressed by Michael Filsell who is the chief executive of Boneham Aged Care Services in Millicent.
It was established almost 60 years ago and has 145 staff and 110 residents.
Mayor Nunan said his address provided a valuable perspective.
“After the forum with Mr Filsell on aged care opportunities for Robe, it seems a dedicated aged care facility will be a very difficult proposition given the governments funding for ageing in place and home care,” Mayor Nunan said.
“The aged care sector is very complex and appears to be in trouble.
“It might be wise for us in the first instance to pursue retirement options for our community whilst the aged care story plays out.
“This was the same message we received from Allan Mitchell when he addressed elected members some time ago.
“It is good to get some clarity on a way forward from such experienced operators.”
