Rotary celebration

Rotarians from across South Australia including Mount Gambier’s Ian McKay and Millicent’s Max Blacketer recently attended a vice-regal reception at Government House in Adelaide.

Her Excellency the Governor of South Australia the Honourable Frances Adamson invited 100 of the service club members to the celebratory occasion.

It was a way of marking the centenary of the Rotary Club of Adelaide and 100 years of Rotary in S.A.

Her Excellency is the Patron of Rotary in this state and spoke warmly in her formal address of its fine service to the community in SA and beyond.

“I thank Rotary in South Australia for its commitment to supporting diversity both within its club ranks, as well as in our community more generally,” Her Excellency said.

“You understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realising a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.”

Mr McKay is the Uni SA campus manager in Mount Gambier and Rotary District Governor for District 9780.

He joined Rotary in Warrnambool 12 years ago.

Rotary is one of the many community organisations in Millicent where Mr Blacketer has played a leading role for around 70 years.

His other interests have included school committees, Methodist and Uniting Churches, Scouts, Royal Flying Doctor Service Support Group, Masonic Lodge, Apex and the Boneham Aged Care Services.

The Rotary Club of Mount Gambier is approaching its own centenary and was the first outside of Adelaide,

There are two other Rotary clubs in the Blue Lake city.

The Millicent Rotary Club began in 1956.
