Sailing Obsession spotted on waters

Keen-eyed locals have recently spied the yacht Obsession on the waters of Rivoli Bay as it made its way for a call at its home port of Beachport.

It is owned by retired Beachport locals Colin and Bev Hibberd.

The 16-metre yacht was built by Mr Hibberd in their Beachport shed over a period of eight years.

It was then moved by truck and crane and launched at the Beachport boat ramp in February 2017.

The Hibberds have reportedly sailed their yacht as far as Port Douglas and other locations along the Eastern seaboard.

Obsession is currently berthed at the Lake Butler marina at Robe.

Mr Hibberd is a retired professional lobster fisherman.

His wife retired in 2015 from her position as the librarian and school support officer at Beachport Primary School after 33 years of service.
