Saints and Demons lock in leaders

Two new coaches have been announced to take on head coaching roles in the 2024 Western Border Football League season.

Millicent and South Gambier have both announced its new coaches for next season, however it is still up in the air in what league the new bosses will be leading their sides in.

Clint Gallio has departed Millicent Saints after leading the side to an incredible period of success.

Gallio will return to Mount Burr after an extremely successful tenure at the Saints which saw him create a local footballing dynasty.

In 2023 Gallio co-coached with Tom Renzi who will take the reins in 2024 after a successful transition season which saw the club complete an incredible three-peat.

Renzi will have a tough task ahead of him to fill Gallio’s shoes and joining him to help will be the 2023 premiership captain Jacob Carger who will take on the role of assistant coach.

Renzi joined Millicent from Mount Burr at the end of the 2019 season and has become an important part of the team’s success and will hope to continue the Saints winning ways in 2024.

Peter Duncan was announced in the head coach role for South Gambier in 2024, Duncan spent his junior playing days at Millicent and Port Adelaide at which he won a junior premiership.

Duncan has spent the last five years at Millicent, including being a bench/assistant coach for the Saints’ three-peat seasons.

Joining Duncan in the role will be South Gambier club legend Brett O’Neil who has retired this season.

Duncan will take over the role from Brayden Kain, who after three seasons in the coaching role elected to step down due to the time commitments involved with coaching.

Kain’s time in the role was a crucial one for South Gambier, guiding the Demons to back to back grand final appearances before 2023 which saw him develop a good young side and sneak them into finals.

Kain will remain a Demon in 2024 and will be a part of Duncan’s developing side, as Duncan hopes to pick up where Kain left off and go deeper into 2024.

Also looking for a new coach for the 2024 season will be North Gambier, the Tigers chose to part ways with coach Ben Hardy who led the side to third place in 2022 and 2023, including a grand final appearance in 2023.

The Tigers have indicated they will be looking for someone to take on the role as a playing coach in 2024.
