Sales dip to new low

The Millicent cattle saleyards are understood to have reached a record low in cattle throughput in its near-50 years of existence.

Just 123 head changed hands in August.

The figure was revealed by Wattle Range Council chief executive Ben Gower at the September monthly council meeting in Millicent.

Mr Gower said this put the annual rolling average to 6835.

He was responding to a question-without-notice from Councillor Dale Price.

Deputy Mayor and Millicent grazier Cr Moira Neagle said other saleyards across the region were currently experiencing low sales volumes.

Meanwhile, Engineering services director Peter Halton has reported on the Millicent Saleyards upgrades.

Mr Halton said the appointed contractor was currently working on engineering and drafting and the next process involves reviewing of the completed drawings.
