Telstra plans to upgrade its telecommunications equipment on Millicent’s concrete water tower.

The public company proposes to replace redundant equipment and undertake internal works. According to Telstra, the equipment is regarded as low impact under the Federal Government standards for such facilities.

Public comment on the proposal must be lodged by May 24. The tower first hosted mobile phone equipment on the tower in 1995.

At the time, Telstra was majority-owned by the Federal Government.
