Around 150 participants gathered outside the Glencoe general store at 6.50am on Anzac Day and then marched to the nearby war memorial near the historic Leake Brothers Woolshed for the traditional dawn service.
Among them were Wattle Range Council Sorby Adams Ward elected representative Councillor Dale Price and a bagpiper. On a per capita basis, Glencoe is reckoned to have the best Anzac Day participation rate in this region across the 10 public events.
The Glencoe Progress Association has arranged the Anzac Day observance for over 20 years and this followed the closure of the Glencoe sub-branch of the RSL. It was decided to reintroduce the Anzac Day march in 2015 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the landing of Anzac troops at Gallipoli.
Cr Price reported on the success of the commemoration to a recent special council meeting in Millicent. He made particular reference to the newly-built $60,000 memorial wall near the existing war memorial as well as the sounding of the Last Post by a bugler.
