Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway kicks off its season this Saturday night as sprint car action roars into town.
The speedway will host round 3 of the SRA Sprint Cars Series as well as a variety of other motorsport events.
Twenty cars have nominated to contest the sprint cars event, including plenty of locals to cheer for on the night.
Locals Scott Enderl, Daniel Pestka and Glen Sutherland will take the track against drivers travelling from Melbourne and Adelaide.
Enderl and Sutherland recently competed in Adelaide in the NAPA Invitational Sprintcar meet that was a part of the Adelaide 500 where Sutherland won the first heat.
The support classes on the night will be the Formula 500 Stampede Series with around 30 drivers competing as well as a junior race for the same category with 17 entries.
There will also be a junior sedans competition with around 10 competing.
The age range for the junior categories range from 10 to 17 years.
The junior sedan category will feature a variety of racers, with locals competing along with some travelling from Adelaide and Portland.
Most of the sedans racing on the night are Charades, Toyota Corollas with the favourite for most of the racers being anything that’s front wheel drive.
In the Formula 500 there are plenty of locals competing including Brad Turnbull, Anthony Beare, Ryan Harry and rookie Ashleigh Johnstone who will compete in her first race.
Speedway organiser Cary Jennings said the weather on the night will dictate a lot with the racing and crowd size with a $30 livestream on offer for fans to watch at home.
Gates will open at 4pm with the racing action starting at 5pm.
The next event at the Borderline Speedway will be on December 7.
