Squad shapes up

The 2024 South East Zone team for the Country Cup Senior Carnival has been announced with every team from the Mount Gambier and Districts Cricket Association having a player feature in the side.

Mil Lel will have its Big Bash and Barber Shield captains in the side with William Rowland and Jack Miller making the side, while Mitch Douglas will also be in the side with good performances in recent weeks.

East Gambier’s Barber Shield captain Alex Hentschke has been named, alongside his T20 captain Emerson Marks, with Liam Turley to play a role with the ball.

Despite West Gambier being in excellent form this season only Justin De Jong has been selected.

Robert Drenthen will be joined in the side by South Gambier teammate Elwood Geary, who has been impressive during his time in the South Gambier A grade side.

Penola has two representatives in the side with Michael Waters and Tom Moyle-Read picked.

Moyle-Read will take on the gloves behind the stumps.

North Sportsman’s, which has been in excellent form in the T20 matches, has its Big Bash captain in the side with Elliot Fisher picked to provide a good spin option and some top order batting, and Isaac Mulraney has also been picked for his fast right arm bowling.

The matches start on Monday (January 29) as they hope to kick off with a big win in Adelaide.

The team is sponsored by the Globe Hotel, Absolute Air Services, Cavanagh Homes, Dycer Constructions, Jaypak Distribution and Lawrence and Hanson.
