Stableford victory teed up

Tony Bolton was the Thursday Stableford winner, posting a tidy 39 points to win by one stroke from Zak Shanks and resident professional John Martin both on 38.

Neil Quirk and Peter Waters posted 37 points with Rob McIntyre, Gordon Bignell and Patrick Dempsey all square with their handicaps on 36.

Bolton’s round was highlighted by a birdie two on the 16th that saw him post 22 points on the back nine after going out in 17.

The ball run down went all the way to 33 points with Henry Forbes nabbing the last one.

Nearest the pins went to Zac Shanks on the 8th and club stalwart Russel Lewis on the 16th. Most importantly both players were able to roll in their birdie putts.

Saturday Monthly Medal

Beautiful weather greeted players for the monthly medal on Saturday.

Both the weather and the golf course were excellent as was the interest with 108 in the men’s field.

Daniel Long was the best of the day with a fine nett 67 to win by one from Bryce Cutting, Keith Couzner, Wayne Elliot, Ken Whitehead and Tim Kenny all on nett 68. Long, playing off a 20 handicap, remained steady all day with no score worse than six and a birdie on the par 3 8th hole.

Long claimed the C Grade win from Couzner with Kym Sykes and admirable 3rd on nett 72.

There was a four-way tie in A Grade with Kenny, Cutting, Elliot and Whitehead all posting nett 68, which was eventually sorted by the arbitrary sword of countback with Kenny and Cutting taking 1st and 2nd.

In B Grade Haydn Dow claimed first place with nett 69 two strokes clear of Grant Stephenson on nett 71.

The ball rundown extended to nett 75 with Tim Driver happy about a birdie on the last, elevating him enough to claim the last ball.
