Summer sport scheduled to return after washout round

After last weekend’s wash out round 3 of the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association’s Hoggies Wines Barber Shield is set to take place with another one-day format.

First up it will be South Gambier versus Mil Lel at Blue Lake Sports Park.

In round one both sides suffered losses and will be out to make amends come Saturday.

South Gambier’s top order in Robert Drentham and Stephen Easterbrook will need to score some runs, with support from Ryan Kuhl and Adam Kuhl while Daniel Loupus headlines the middle order.

Camron Jorgensen along with Jakob Opie will get the bowling gig for South and be hoping to breakthrough early when they take the field.

On the other hand, Mil Lel started well in their round one game but fell away late in the day.

If they are any chance to claim the points they will need batsmen Willian Rowland, Craig Lock, Jarrod Sanders and Darcy Williamson to score some big runs.

They will be backed up in the bowling department from Logan Gibbs, Jack Miller and Nick Walters.

A close game to be had by both teams.

East Gambier V North Sportsmans

This is shaping to be the match of the round, with both teams boasting plenty of experience.

After scoring a tonne in round one Dion Stratford looks to still be in meticulous touch along with captain Alex Hentschke, providing a classy combination.

North will look to Nick McInerney and Declan Kenny to spearhead their bowling attack.

When it comes to North’s batting lineup, McInerney, Nicholas Brown and Michael Johnstone will lead the charge and are sure to face some pressure from East’s Liam Turley, Hentschke and Emerson Marks.

A great contest will be had at Allan Scott Park at 1pm.

Penola v West Gambier

McCorquindale Park will be the venue for this game and with Penola not having played much cricket in the past two weeks their players are sure to be itching to get play under way.

West Gambier had a big win over Mil Lel in the first round and will be hoping to continue that going into Saturday.

For West to win they will need Justin DeJong to lead the scoring along with Nuwan Gunawardana and captain Jake Blackwell to help push the runs along.

Penola’s bowling will be spearheaded by Michael Waters, Brad Maney and Paul Ellis who are all capable of taking multiple wickets.

The batting for the Eagles will see Drew Clayfield and Josh Doyle start and have Paul Ellis and Eli Hunter to follow but it will be a strong attack from the West bowling outfit in Sam Willis and Kyal Chapman doing the bulk of the work, with support from Trent Badman.
