Tennis bounces back

Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association’s 2022/23 season kicked off Friday night at Mount Gambier’s Olympic Park.

After months away from the court, Division 1 was action-packed with great scores.

Uniting had a tough match against the West Gambier Tennis Club, where George White won the first set against Uniting’s Travis Crowe 6-0.

Brady Cook, Shaunn Robinson, Jess Stutley and Emily Jolley continued West’s winning streak to sit at 7-0.

Uniting achieved its first winning set with Kobe Cole and Jace Maxell winning 6-4 against Shaunn Robinson and Noah Lang, followed by a second winning set with Karen Mitchell and Vanessa Maxell scoring 6-3 against sister-act Emily and Ella Jolley.

West enjoyed a comfortable 10-2 win over Uniting to close out the night.

Centrals also started the season well with a win against Mount Schank 9-3.

Association president Andrew Van den Hurk led his club by example, winning 6-0 against Oscar Geddes.

This set Centrals off on a five-set streak until Kaitlyn Nisbet managed to lodge a 6-1 win against Zarly Jones.

Glencoe proved to be a powerhouse against Reidy Park, beating them 12-0 which sent the team straight to the top of the ladder at the end of Round 1.

A Boys had different scales of wins with Uniting/Mil Lel scoring a comfortable win against Glencoe, 5-1.

Kobe Cole started off strong with a 6-1 win over his opponent and continued his domination with Jace Maxwell, 6-1 against Glencoe.

Dean Harten and Evan Clarke fought hard before claiming a nail-biting 6-5 win against Glencoe.

West Gambier was able to get the win of 4-2 sets against Mount Schank, meanwhile Mil Lel/Glencoe tied with Reidy Park 3-3.

Uniting/Mil Lel are sitting on top of the A Boys ladder with West Gambier sitting just behind them in second.
