Key members of parliament are awaiting the final report of the radiation therapy treatment feasibility study which is expected at the end of this month.
Independent Member for MacKillop Nick McBride said he was pleased the interim report into the feasibility of radiation services in Mount Gambier has been completed.
“This indicates we are one step closer to finding out if such a service in the Mount will be financially viable,” Mr McBride said.
“I understand the consultation has been thorough, involving a range of stakeholders and members of the community.
“I look forward to reading the final report, and understanding what the next steps will be in relation to access to radiation therapy services in the Limestone Coast.
“I understand such a service has strong support from the community, who believe travelling to Warrnambool or Adelaide for radiation treatment is unacceptable.”
“Regional communities deserve access to the best health care possible.
“They should not be disadvantaged by their distance from a major city.”
