Tigers step up to plate

Tigers and Federal took the Mount Gambier and District Baseball League field on Tuesday night for a rescheduled match following a washout on the weekend.

Tigers relished the rescheduled match, running out 11-5 winners.

The Tigers were first out of the blocks in the bottom of the third, while the Demons hit back in the top of the fourth to hit the front.

Their fourth run for the dig came about when Craig Nicholls hit into an error at shortstop created an opportunity for Riley Rolph to cross the plate.

Not to be outdone Tigers fired back in the even inning.

Harrison Elletson walked and Ben Marcus’ hit to left-field landed safely.

Elletson tied the game up when he scored on Karl Ransom’s Texas Leaguer to left-field.

Marcus crossed the plate on a wild pitch and he was closely followed by Ransom who scored on Matt Thompson’s sacrifice fly to centre-field to now give the orange and black the lead by two before adding three more in the seventh.

Kane Harrison was hit by the pitcher and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Mitch Thomson hit into an error and crossed the home plate on a wild pitch, Jarvi Mee found himself at first on a wild throw by the pitcher and he crossed on Jake England’s sacrifice fly.

Two more in the bottom of the eighth put the game out of reach for Federal. Again with two out Matt Thompson hit safely to right-field and Kane Harrison picked a walk.

Jake Powell’s flyball to left-field was put down and both Thompson and Harrison scored.

The green and red added a consolation run when in the top of the ninth Alex Pearson’s hit to shortstop resulted in a wild throw and he eventually scored on another wild throw this time by the second sacker. Of the 16 runs scored in the game only two were earned.
