The Limestone Coast Toastmasters will toast to their 60th birthday later this month.
The group, originally called Naracoorte Toastmasters Club, was formed after local resident Stan Blackford read an article in a copy of the Readers Digest titled “Unaccustomed as I am” about the organisation.
He then spoke to several business friends and communication between the group and Toastmasters International resulted in the Naracoorte club being chartered on December 8, 1961.
After a long history, the name changed five years ago to what it is today due to members hailing from all around the South East.
Limestone Coast Toastmasters membership officer Andrea Bruhn said it was a testament to the club, its survivability and its strength.
“It’s just an amazing achievement all around which is attributed to every single member of the club both past and present,” she said.
“Hopefully we will have a lot of visitors from Victoria and Adelaide within the Toastmaster’s society which will give us the opportunity to network.
“The members are all so welcoming and supportive and we are encouraging anyone who many be interested to just branch out, come along and try it.”
The dinner will be held on September 24 at the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro from 6.30pm
