Top of the table clash awaits

Blue Lake v Apollo

It’s the match of the round as top of the table Apollo hosts the second placed Blue Lake in an exciting contest for Round 14 of the Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League.

Last season Blue Lake claimed the premiership with a grand final win over Apollo and the result seems to still be showing scars for Apollo this season.

The blue and white has looked the best team in the league having beaten every team, except for Blue Lake.

The Rangers have been inconsistent this season but the previous meetings against Apollo saw the Rangers at its best.

No other side has taken a point from Apollo, but Blue Lake has managed to take a win and a draw from the two encounters.

Apollo’s inability to beat Blue Lake is the side’s only mark against its premiership aspirations, so taking the three points in the last time the sides will meet in the home and away fixture will be incredibly important for player confidence.

Blue Lakes’ attack has proven elite all season and it will be going up against the best defence in the league.

Apollo has only conceded 14 goals in 13 games which is an incredible record, however the side will have to deal with the goal threats of Jasmine White and Chelsea Frost.

Blue Lake will look to get the ball to the feet of its star players, while Apollo will have to do its best to make sure neither can get a clear sight on goal.

Gambier Centrals v International

Gambier Centrals has had a tough season with results leaving a little to be desired, while the side has been competitive it has not had the results going their way.

Now with International being the sides next match up it will need to be at its best to get any points.

International were comfortable 3-0 winners in the last match between the sides and Centrals will be excited at the opportunity to challenge the black and blue to a closer result.

Evany Rex will be the player for Centrals to focus on. Rex dominates Internationals midfield and is the side’s biggest goal threat.

Limiting the impact Rex can have on the game will go a long way to getting the full points at the conclusion of the match.

The Lions will also be wary of the wide run which Skye Robertson offers on the wing, which is a major attacking outlet for International.

Gambier Centrals’ defence will believe it is up to the task having conceded only four more goals this season than its round 14 opposition.

The side has struggled to find the back of the net but if its defence can hold up – as it has this season – and some of the side’s shots are more accurate then Centrals could perhaps cause an upset.

With a top-two spot to play for, expect International to come out firing and motivated to get the victory.

Naracoorte v Millicent

Millicent will make the trip to Naracoorte with hopes of securing the three points and locking in a Barry Maney Group Limestone Coast Premier League finals’ spot.

Naracoorte has had a less than pleasant season with a wooden spoon looking extremely likely.

The side statistically has the weakest defence in the league having conceded 49 goals, which is 20 more than any other team in the competition.

Naracoorte United will need to tighten its defence right up if it wants to have any chance against Millicent, which has several dangerous attackers in its roster.

Lauren Mather has been a shining light in a struggling side. Mather has netted five of Naracoortes 17 goals this season and has played major roles when her team takes any points from a match.

The most recent fixture between the two sides was a convincing victory in favour of Milllicent United 4-0, which Naracoorte will be desperate to avoid this time around.

A win will see the side jump up from bottom place on the table with one round to go, which would be a big relief for both players and supporters.

With only one other match before finals which sees Millicent United side face Apollo, the team will be keen to get the points and build some momentum before finals and perhaps cause an upset next week.

It’s the penultimate round and while Naracoorte are out of finals contention expect the side to give its all against a top-four side.
