Tricky conditions served up

Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association players found a break in Friday’s inclement conditions to take to the court.

Mount Gambier had the bye for the week while Moorak took on Uniting, Centrals came up against Mil Lel and Suttontown faced West.

Daniel Moon approached the match with a strong start for Uniting, setting a score of 6-0 against Chris Tully.

Sergio Cesaro had a close match against Ryan Horrigan, getting Uniting its second win of 7-6.

Matthew Patzel claimed one back for Uniting, winning 6-0 against Peter Jelleff.

Jess Stewart, Kiersten Cole and Lily Kradolfer continued a streak for Uniting, beating their opponents with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1 respectively.

Uniting kept its streak going in the doubles with Tully and Patzel scraping a win for Moorak.

Uniting was able to win 65-33 games against Moorak and secure second position on the ladder.

Centrals and Mil Lel had an impressive tussle, with Centrals serving up some hard hits, while Lachie Arnold and Riley Boneham secured wins for Mil Lel.

Arnold defeated Mitch van Riet 6-2, while Boneham downed Liam Dedonatis 6-4.

That started a winning roll for Centrals, defeating Mil Lel with strong wins of 6-0 and two 6-1.

Centrals continued its winnings into the doubles match-ups against Mil Lel, but a strong tussle between Chloe Baker and Aynslee Hayman gave Centrals its last win of 7-5 against Pippin Ellis and Nicola Linn.

Centrals defeated Mil Lel 66-37 games which lifted them to fourth place with Mil Lel down to sixth.

West Gambier came out strong against Suttontown in the Division 3 match-up.

West Gambier was able to secure the win 44-17, however Suttontown showed determination, with nail-biting 6-4 scores, before West Gambier turned the game around to secure the round.

West Gambier remains top of the ladder with Suttontown slipping to third.

The B Boys found themselves up against the inclement weather, with games being called off.

Mount Gambier White was able to score a 20-3 game win against Centrals in the singles before the rain took hold of the day while Mount Gambier Blue won 5-4 games against Moorak in one doubles match.

The clash between Reidy/West Gambier and Uniting was able to be played in its entirety as the rain was not as harsh over at Corriedale Park.

Reidy/West Gambier defeated Uniting in all its matches, winning 30-10 games.

Centrals player Ewan Savage was reflective after his match.

“I don’t think I did all that great, but I tried my best. I lost 5-1,” he said.

“I have been planning to start private lessons this year and train more. It will turn me into a better player and further myself in tennis”.

Savage will take on a Uniting opponent next round and lookeda ahead to the match.

“I’m not sure how it will go to be honest. For trainings going into the match and even the rest of the season I want to create consistency in my playing and keeping routine in my training,” he said.
