Tricky Penola conditions

A large field of 75 ventured to the Penola Golf Club on a very windy day on Monday and local Bill Cheers took out Division 1.

Cheers’ score of 35 points just edged out Millicent’s Wally Altschwager, while Lindsay Storer also performed on his home course with 33.

Second Division went to the ever-improving Bob Tonkin of Attamurra with the day’s best score of 37 points.

Mount Gambier’s Dennis Smith counted out Roy Mitchell of Beachport on 34 points.

The Ross Orchard trophy went to Brenton Speck and Colin Rex, while Steve Von Duve grabbed the Scotch award.

Roger Gulin must love cypresses as he drove into one, picked it out from head height, took the penalty, then belted it into the next one 20 metres along for the same result.

Rob Cece from Robe has a new remote control buggy and sent it straight into the bunker, which left clubs everywhere on the first hole.

The next meeting is at Attamurra on Monday, November 9.
