Truck blocks highway on busy night for CFS

It took contractors and emergency services personnel more than three hours to clear the Princes Highway at Tantanoola on Saturday morning after a large truck collided with a concrete barrier near the Caves Roadhouse.

The alarm was raised at 2am and the tasking was not completed until just before the break of dawn at 5.30am.

The sole occupant of the truck was its male driver and he was uninjured.

As is standard practice, police breath-tested the driver.

A Millicent company sent one of its cranes to assist in clearing the roadway.

Also on the scene were SA Ambulance Service personnel, Millicent and Mount Gambier police and volunteer firefighters from the Millicent, Tantanoola and Glencoe CFS brigades.

It was a busy few hours for the Millicent CFS as an alarm had been activated at 3.35am at Millicent North Primary School.

However, investigations by school staff, a security contractor and the CFS could find no cause.

Just before midnight, the CFS had also been requested to supply a driver to take the Millicent ambulance to an emergency tasking in the Tantanoola township.
