Senior Men
Millicent United v Naracoorte United
Millicent United will host Naracoorte United on Sunday as both sides are in need of a Barry Maney Premier League win.
It has been a tough start to the season for both teams as Naracoorte has only picked up one win while Millicent still searches for their first.
Millicent are coming off a big loss to Centrals last week while Naracoorte put up a good fight against Portland two weeks ago but still came up short in a 2-1 result.
In the last meeting between these sides Naracoorte got the win in a high scoring 4-3 result.
Besides the top sides in the competition, Millicent has competed well against the bottom sides but just has been unable to come away with a result.
This week will be a good opportunity to get their first points.
This should be another high scoring game with plenty of goals, however I believe Naracoorte will be able to pull away with the win.
Apollo v Gambier Centrals
Apollo will look to get back on the winners list on Sunday as they host Gambier Centrals.
Centrals are coming off a big win last week and will be feeling good as that was their first three point result recently.
Apollo on the other hand will be keen for a win after dropping points in their last two games following a loss to Inter and a draw with Blue Lake.
These sides last met in round three where Centrals had a big 6-0 win in a Friday night game.
Apollo put up a good fight last week against Inter and started the game well.
However they could not maintain the pressure for the whole game and eventually lost.
With Blue Lake having the bye this week Apollo will have a good shot at overtaking the Rangers on the ladder and getting into the top four if they can come away with a win.
Given how well Centrals have been playing this season I think they will come away with the victory.
International v Portland Panthers
International will host the Portland Panthers on Sunday as the two sides look to build off their wins from last week’s outings.
Both sides are coming off solid victories last weekend and a win this week will help their chances at holding their spots in the top four.
These sides last met in round three with Inter getting the 7-1 win over Portland.
Portland has been in solid form since that game, with only one loss across four games.
Inter have been dominant at home this season, only dropping points once in a 2-2 draw against Centrals.
If Portland can repeat last week’s performance then this should be a very competitive game.
The Panthers will need to slow down Matt Bueti who had a big game in the last meeting, scoring five goals.
Portland should put up a good fight against Inter in this one, especially given how they have been playing lately.
However I think Inter will be too good for Portland at home and will come away with the three points.
Senior Women
Apollo v Gambier Centrals
Apollo will host Gambier Centrals on Saturday as the two top sides go head to head in a big contest.
Apollo have been the side to beat this season as they remain undefeated while Centrals have emerged as a surprising premiership contender with five wins and two losses.
Apollo dished Centrals their first loss of the season back in round three, so there’s no doubt that Centrals will be keen to get their revenge.
Both sides are coming off solid wins last week and will look to keep their winning streaks going.
There is a lot on the line in this one as the winner will get the top spot on the ladder with only two points separating the two.
I can see this game going either way and possibly ending in a draw.
Millicent United v Naracoorte United
Millicent will host Naracoorte on Sunday as both sides look for the crucial three points.
Millicent have struggled to start the season as they have lost six straight games.
Naracoorte on the other hand have made a big improvement from last year and are in a good position to play finals.
Naracoorte will be keen to get back into the top two this week and a win will help their chances.
It will be a tough road ahead for Millicent if they want to play finals as they have a lot of ground to make up.
Naracoorte had a great win the last time they played Millicent with the result being 7-0.
Sophie Hole caused most of the damage that time, scoring five goals.
All season Hole has been a very reliable scorer for Naracoorte and will definitely be one to watch on Sunday.
I think Naracoorte will be too good for Millicent and will pick up the three points on Sunday.
International v Portland Panthers
Inter and Portland will take the field at Casadio Park on Sunday as both sides look to get back on the winners list.
It was a tough round for both sides last week with a 6-1 loss to Inter and a narrow 2-3 loss to Portland.
Both sides have been solid this season but have plenty of room for improvement as the Panthers sit in sixth and Inter in seventh with two points separating them.
It was a tight contest in the last meeting as it ended in a 1-1 draw.
Neither side has been in great form lately as Portland have lost three straight while Inter have lost two in a row.
With six points separating Portland and the top four they need to start picking up some points every week if they want to make finals.
I can see this game ending in a draw again but given how well the Panthers fought last week they may well come out on top.
