Veterans cap off year on Millicent course

The Lower South East Veterans Golf Association had a fitting end to the year at Millicent with 81 players making the trip.

Although the weather was rainy pre-game, it allowed the golfers to get under way as it petered off.

Bill Burley had just qualified and showed how to do it, recording 39 points to take out Division 1 on a countback from the local lad Ben Young.

Maurice Faroe was third with 37 also on a countback.

Robe’s Kym St John surprised his travelling companions by taking out Division 2 with 39 from Blue Lake’s Russ Lingham on 37 and Penola’s Bill Cheers on 34.

The nearest the pin winners were Graham Pilgrim, Mick Pedlar, Daryl Hutchins and Terry Chant, while the Ross Orchard trophy went to a couple of surprise players Alex Juokoff and Grant Stephenson and Darren Earl claimed the Scotch.

The group was then surprised when everybody received a ball from a generous benefactor, Jim, who delights in giving.

The competition now has a break until January 22 at Mount Gambier’s Attamurra course followed by Kingston on February 5 and Robe on February 19.
