Veterans play under clear skies

If you asked the weather bureau for perfect golf weather, then on Monday in Naracoorte was it.

The SE Veterans golfers enjoyed 25 degrees, no breeze and a clear blue sky.

Fifty-two players found the course in great condition, but the best score in Division 1 was just 32 points by Barry Brook from six others on 31.

Brook was wide eyed when he found out he won, with Rob Perryman and Rob Harkness the placegetters who had to travel home with him.

In Division 2 the wily, “Lucky” Lindsay Copeman had 35 and counted out Rob “Red” Sims and in third place was Penola’s Trev Williams with 34.

The Ross Orchard Trophy went to Trev Hutchesson and Peter Ewer and President Glen took home the Scotch.

The previous round, 65 veterans turned up at the Mount Gambier course for their annual Ambrose and AGM.

Rob Harkness, Sam Mainwaring, Barry Brook, Tony Mac Gregor and Kev Otten won the day with 56.8 nett.

Second was Bob Childs, Col Wright, Brian Prosser and Terry Chant with 57.5 and in third place was Ian Todd, Lyndsay Storer, Col Rex and Tony Bowering with 58.87.

The Ross Orchard trophy was won by the group of Grant Rowe, Phil Richards, Noel Chant and Brenton Speck with 65.87.

New member Eben Buekes had a lucky day taking home the Scotch and some beer.

The next round will be on April 17 at Bordertown, followed by Beachport on May 8.
