The Castec Rural Pioneers have re-signed 2023-24 captain and 2022 Golden Hands award winner Kane de Wit for the upcoming NBL1 South Season.

De Wit, who will turn 28 this year, was a national championship player with the Castec Rural Pioneers in 2015 and 2017 before leaving Mount Gambier for two seasons.

The fan favourite carries on a proud tradition, with his father Ray a Pioneers legend.

In his four seasons back with the Pioneers de Wit has become a vital member of the team and contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Last year de Wit had a solid all-round season averaging 4.21 points per game, 3.50 assists and 3.08 rebounds. His leadership on and off court has been exemplary.

The captain said he was looking forward to another season as a Pioneer.

“It’s great to be back for another year under Coach Richard Hill and for another successful year in front of our fabulous fans,” de Wit said.

“I am really looking forward to getting back to Wulanda and getting to work on winning a championship.”

Head Coach Richard Hill said he was pleased to have de Wit remaining a Pioneer in 2025.

“Kane is a great example for young Mount Gambier basketballers,” he said.

“Hard work and commitment have seen Kane become an integral part of a very successful Pioneers era and ascend to the captaincy.
