Two teenagers will appear in court after they were caught driving dangerously through Mount Gambier.
On January 1 about 5.15pm, Mount Gambier patrols spotted two red Holden Commodore station wagons being driven erratically on Lake Terrace East at Mount Gambier.
Police attempted to catch up to the vehicles on Pick Avenue.
Police observed one of the station wagons, overtake a car on a blind crest of a hill narrowly avoiding a head on crash with a vehicle travelling north.
This station wagon was then driven off at speed heading south on Glenelg River Road.
Police attempted to stop the second vehicle before it overtook a car on the dirt verge of Glenelg River Road.
Police will allege the car took off from police at reaching a speed of 170kph in an 80kph zone.
Police did not pursue the vehicles.
The next day, following an investigation, police attended an address in Mount Gambier and spoke to the two alleged drivers.
A 17-year-old local boy was arrested and charged with driving at a speed dangerous to the public, failing to comply with conditions of his learner’s licence, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and failing to display number plates.
He was granted police bail to attend the Mount Barker Youth Court on February 24.
An 18-year-old local teen was reported for driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit, driving without a licence and driving at an extreme speed.
He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
Both vehicles were impounded for 28 days.
