Wood fibre exports under scrutiny

Evidence is to be taken in Mount Gambier by the South Australian parliamentary select committee inquiring into the exporting of wood fibre and other Limestone Coast timber matters.

The committee will spend three days in the region from August 14-16 and will also make site visits.

Individuals or persons who wish to make an oral presentation to the committee are asked to contact Parliament House by July 21.

Its cross-party membership comprises Liberal Upper House Opposition Leader Dr Nicola Centofanti, Mount Gambier Liberal MLC Ben Hood, Labor MLCs Ted Ngo and Russell Wortley and crossbencher Frank Pangallo.

The committee had invited oral and written submissions from the public and the closing date was April 28.

A sub-committee of the Legislative Council, it was originally established in May 2019, but work was delayed for a period because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee did not have sufficient time to finalise and table a final report before the March 2022 state election.

As a result, it received cross-party support to be re-established.

Last month, the Legislative Council extended its reporting deadline until late November.
