Youngster returns to Little Athletics

Athletes had a change of day for last week’s Little Athletics meet due to the heat.

The meet was moved to Sunday morning, with athletes taking the track once the weather cleared.

The under 12 females participated in the 100 metres, 200 metres, shot put, high jump and 1500 metres.

Darcy Hodges jumped her way to finish on top in the high jump and managed a personal best in the event.

Darcy jumped 1.29m just ahead of Elsie Merchant who also achieved a personal best with 1.25 metres.

In the shotput Ella Swiggs recorded a personal best throw of 6.52m, edging out Elsie and Olivia Perry.

Elsie finished first in the 100 metres and 200 metres with another personal best time in the 100 metres of 15.15 seconds.

Zara Cole and Amber Pohlner also achieved personal bests in this event, while Eva Povey and Zara Cole also recorded personal best times in the 1500 metre run.

The Under 7 girls got off to a great start in the 70 metre sprint.

Layla Gamble and Allanah Golding pushed each other right to the end in a close finish, with Layla just in front with a time of 13.36 seconds.

Both girls also put on a show in the 200 metre along with Gabriella Albanese with all girls achieving personal bests in this event.

Allanah finished in top spot in the long jump with a 2.44 metre jump.

The club’s athlete of the week Cooper Hutchesson deserves a special mention this week.

Cooper has recently returned to Mount Gambier Little Athletics due to being away to receive medical treatment for Leukaemia.

Cooper underwent a bone marrow transplant in May 2021 and has needed many months of rehab, which he did while being very brave.

Cooper is excited to be back with his friends and getting back to normal again.

We are proud of Cooper and also excited to see him back with Little Athletics.
